Wow, Thanksgiving already, where did the year go? It feels like we just got moved in here at the new house, but already we’re having our second Thanksgiving in it. Hmm, that might be because we’re still working on painting and decorating the house. We’re actually down to just the bathrooms to paint now, of course, we could and probably will change our minds on other rooms at some point, I mean – we seem to be a bit color dumb, the front room just got like it’s fourth coat of paint in the past year.
So big holiday weekend this week! We’re actually having Thanksgiving with my family this year, as my parents are still in the area for the first time in a number of years, the kids are pretty excited about that. Last year’s Thanksgiving was just the three of us, Russ, myself and Ariana, as David went to his father’s, and then my Gram and her friend came up for lunch. Am I happy I don’t have to cook today? Not really, I enjoy making the big spread – I simply can’t host the meal like my parents can though – as their house actually holds us all comfortably, and no one has to fight with my jumpy dogs.
So Neenie is doing most of the cooking this year, of course we’re still all pitching in. Last night I made homemade rice pudding, in our new Rice Plus Multi-Cooker by Cuisinart, which is a great product that I have been asked to review. (My review will be coming next week – but I have to say that so far, I am loving this new kitchen appliance, we’ve used it nearly everyday since it arrived, but rarely for rice – because it does so much more than that.) And today, I’m making Brazilian Chicken and Shrimp soup, a recipe that I was sent designed especially for the Rice Plus Multi-Cooker, by Chef Hubert Keller, it sounds delicious and we can’t wait to try it!
This morning Russ went up to have coffee with his mom, while I work on cleaning the house (a never ending job) and cooking (a job that I’m really starting to get into the last few years) and getting the kids ready for supper at Neenie and Poppy’s.
Saturday, Russ and I plan on Christmas/Birthday shopping, and Saturday night is my fifteenth class reunion. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over fifteen years since I graduated. Wow, we’re getting old I guess! I can’t wait to see everyone, and hear what they’ve been up to for the last fifteen years.
Sunday afternoon we’re having Ariana’s seventh birthday party, we’re taking all the kids bowling, and then back to Neenie and Poppy’s for some cake and ice cream. Ariana is so excited about it.
Monday, David will be hunting with his dad for the first day of buck season – we’re hoping he gets his deer – as I’ve been digging up venison recipes for it. I made a stew a few weeks ago from some venison his dad sent out, and they loved it.
Tuesday, of course, is back to school for the kids, and it’s Ariana’s actual birthday – so she gets to take a treat in for all her classmates. After school, she has Son-Beams, her youth group down at the Knox Dale United Methodist Church, and she gets to take a treat for that too, but at least it doesn’t have to be store bought, so I’m making her mini-cream puffs to take for her birthday treat.
Well, that about wraps up what we’ve been up to and what we’re going to be up to for the next weekend. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and doesn’t over stuff themselves!
