Beta Parents

Beta Mom.  Much better than Slacker Mom.  Or Beta Parents, I guess it would be.

But it fits my generation to a T.  We aren’t the stay at home mothers that most of our mothers are, we don’t fuss over the little things, like always sending home baked snacks and such.  But that doesn’t mean we’re bad moms.  It just means we’re more laid back!

My kids help out around the house, something I with my type A super mother, never had to do.  But it’s good for them, and me.  My kids will be prepared for life on their own, I wasn’t.  I was terribly unprepared for having my own place, dishes piled up, laundry was never done, it was a general disaster.  I didn’t know where to start.  I had never done a load of laundry, cooked a meal, or even knew what my mother spent all those hours cleaning.  Hopefully, my children won’t be in that predicament.  They know how the dishwasher works, and how to load and unload it, how to vacuum and even make their own beds.

My children are also able to fix themselves something to eat if I’m unavailable.  Take care of the animals, and all the other little household chores, like dusting and scrubbing the bathroom.

They enjoy the nights we do sit down meals with the whole family, but they also love the nights it’s take out in front of the television.  Instead of weekends spent scrubbing the whole house, we spent them out hiking with the dogs, or having campfires in the back yard.  Of course, the scrubbing does get done occasionally, Russell wouldn’t have it any other way!  But WHEN it gets done is another matter…

Are we bad parents because our kids are happy, healthy and loved?  Nope, we’re just Beta Parents!
