Hard Workers

Building a house is a lot of hard work. No one can dispute that. But I must say I am extremely proud of my children for the effort that they’ve put in to help everyone out. They’ve been the “go getters”, the ones everyone yells for when they need something out of the trucks. They been the “hand me”s, when ever something gets dropped.

Last night they really surprised me though. As we near the end of our home building experience, it’s time to clear away the garbage, the scraps, and anything else that was left lying around, such as almost a whole pallet of cement blocks. As my father and husband were busy working on hooking up utilities, planning decks and all the other last minute stuff, I decided to organize the clean-up process, figuring that I would end up doing it all myself. Not so. My children jumped in and helped and within just a few hours we had all the garbage burnt, the blocks put away and anything else that the guys told us to do.

My daughter was a little trooper, she hauled garbage shingles, siding, and small boards down to our burn pile all herself, which is no easy feat, as it was up and down the steep bank all night. And she never once complained.

My son really surprised me, and proved that he’s smarter than me, by getting out the tractor and cart to help. He lugged a lot of the bigger garbage boards, even cutting them into more manageable pieces with the saw all by himself. Then he ended up hauling most of the cement block all by himself, with the tractor of course, but still it was a lot of hard work loading and unloading all that block.

Which I must say, hard work is not something my kids are used to. But no one complained even once!

I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of the two of them!

And how do I repay them? By taking them to the doctor’s today for their shots. Sorry kids, it’s not by choice! The school won’t let you start next week if your shots aren’t up to date!
