The Facts According to Mom:

I have one very sick child at home today, David.

I have one child who saw the opportunity for a day off and took it, simply because her temperature was one degree higher than normal this morning, Ariana.

We have over an inch of snow – and it’s only mid-October.

I shouldn’t be surprised, it runs in the family. My mom is always falling down, or getting hurt somehow. She even once got her head caught in a moving ceiling fan, word to the wise – don’t turn on the fan, no matter how hot it is, when you’re painting the ceiling that said fan is attached to. I’m the one whom got so caught up in dog leashes so many times that I have permanent scars wrapping around both ankles, I’m also the one that fell off the porch while holding the dog leashes, all because the boys saw David walking up the path before I did. Thanks god the bush beside the old porch caught me…

So why does it amaze me so, the injuries that Ariana gets. She’s only six, yet she’s had about six black eyes, the latest being at Christmas time from hitting her head on Neenie’s glass end table. Her legs are constantly covered in black and blue marks, lately due mostly to her fascination with trying to hop on all the big stones that line our driveway. I swear we could put her into a padded room, and she’d still manage to get hurt somehow!

Today’s injury, apparently wasn’t too bad, as she failed to report it to me until about four hours after it happened, and I have a hard time believing it actually happened. She came to me just a little bit ago and claimed that while she was playing outside this morning a bug flew into her mouth and bit her on the tongue. While I do believe it’s quite possible that she did manage to get a bug in her mouth, I can hardly believe that it actually bit her tongue, or that if it did she didn’t come running immediately to the house screaming horribly, like she does for every other little bump or bruise.

I wonder if it’s possible to get her a plastic bubble – you know, kind of like the one on the Bubble boy movie with Heather Graham?

Well, this is the sick house today, apparently. Ariana’s home sick today, and MacKenzie is here and also sick. Both have terrible colds, constant runny noses, lots of horrible coughing, and Kenzie’s has turned into an ear and a sinus infection, hopefully Ari’s won’t follow suit. But Kenz doesn’t want Ari to get out of her sight, she’s following her around like a little puppy. She’s not used to any of the kids being home when she comes to stay with Aunt Haley for the day.

So there’s been a lot of barking and bawling this morning. Barking because the dogs want to see Kenz. Bawling because Kenz isn’t in the mood to see the dogs. She’s used to dogs a lot smaller than mine, as her puppy at home is about 4 pounds, a little Shitzu.

And all mommy has accomplished this morning is changing diapers, wiping noses, handing out medicine and making sure the four legged kids stay away from the two legged ones. It looks like it’s going to be a very productive day!

I remember writing a similar post earlier this year about my daughter and her night time wandering. Well, it’s back! Nearly every morning since we moved into the new house, she wakes me a three AM. Sometimes she just wants covered up, sometimes she wants to get in bed with us or her brother, and other times it’s just that she can’t sleep.

I know adjusting to a new house, with her own bedroom is hard for her, and she’s done amazingly well considering the fact. But I miss sleeping through the night! (hmm… Maybe she’s just trying to get me used to night time wakings, so that I’ll be ready when that new baby sister she wants comes… But I guess first she has to convince daddy that he wants a new baby sister for her first!)

It seems like most nights she ends up in bed with her brother at some point or another. Even if I go re-tuck her in, when I go looking for her in the morning she’s in David’s room, curled up in a ball, with her white dora blanket at the foot of his bed. He doesn’t seem to mind it though.

But I must say, Ariana has got to have better night vision than her mom, because I have to turn on lights so that I don’t run into anything yet. I haven’t got the layout of the new place down pat yet, like I did the old house. But she never turns on a light, and I never hear her run into anything.

Hopefully, now that we’re almost all settled, and she’s been in her own room for two weeks now, she’ll start sleeping through the night again. I guess that’s the life of a mom, after the kids come – a full nights rest is out of the question. Now I only wonder why dad’s still get uninterrupted sleep?

Yesterday we signed the closing papers on our home equity loan with our local bank, S & T Bank. Much thanks go out to Don S., of S & T Bank. We should have just gone to him in the first place instead of messing with mortgage brokers and what not. But we have learned our lesson now. (And according to our home owner’s insurance agent, she said she sees it happen quite often, where people go to out of state banks for “a better deal” but then end up going back locally because of problems like ours.)

Word of advice – Do your research on an financial institute before signing any documents!

But then we all must live and learn!

After signing the papers at the bank, Grammy and I did some shopping.

We ran into one of my parents neighbors and she informed me that my daughter, Ariana and her grandson, Stevie, are the talk of the school. They are both in kindergarten, and they ride the bus (van) together both morning and night. Judy told me that all the teachers and aides in at the school think that they are just the cutest, because they help each other out so much when they have to transfer from the big school bus to the van at the larger elementary school. Apparently, they hold hands when the cross the drive, and help each other with their backpacks and such. Ariana has been talking about him since the first week of school, now she calls him her best friend and wants to know if they can have a sleep over. Russ, of course, told her no that she can have Stevie over to play but that girls don’t have boys spend the night unless they’re married.

Well today, Ariana was quite upset when she got home from school. I guess her and Stevie got a little rowdy on the van and are no longer allowed to sit together. She’s heart-broken. She fears that she’ll never see him again because they can’t sit together (the van only holds 10 kids).

Oh, to have only the troubles of a kindergarten kid again!

On another note:

I updated our Construction photo album with pictures of the outside of our house. Just try to picture it with grass instead of dirt for the lawns… As someday we hope to have this!

I also added lots of pictures to our Price Family Snapshots, most of which Ariana, whom is having a love affair with the camera lately has taken all by herself. That would be why there are so many of her I guess. There are also pictures of our first fire in the fireplace at the house. Ariana would like to have a fire every night. She’s also taken a few new ones of our bad boys, Jack, Lewy and Woobie.
